Magnetic!

Here's a little project that you can accomplish in an hour or two!



It's a 5 x 7 magnetic board that is framed with designer paper.

I purchased a 5 x 7 mat from the dollar store and covered it with designer paper (TAC). Then I cut a piece of chipboard the same size for the back and covered it with the same paper using a glue stick. Roll your clean brayer over both pieces a couple of times to make sure that the glue is adhered really well. Cut your magnet sheet to size and glue it down onto the back panel. (You can find the magnet sheets at any office supply store, Wal-Mart of even the dollar store.) Add ribbon for hanging and then glue down the frame.

You can embellish this further if you so desire. I can picture some flowers, chipboard letters to spell out a name, etc. Wouldn't this be fun on a teenagers bedroom door? Or a "Honey do" board....the possibilities are endless!



To make the magnets - I used page/picture pebbles, crystal lacquer (diamond glaze, etc. any clear glue will work), saying stamps and magnet strips cut to size. Stamp your sayings in stazon or palette hybrid ink, adhere the crystal lacquer to the page pebble and set down over your word or saying. Press down so that you get a good seal. After they dry, add the magnet to the back. Some pebbles are self-adhesive - however I decided to add the crystal lacquer so that they would last a bit longer.

These are done the same way but with Tulip Brand See Through Stones. In both examples, I used designer paper from The Angel Company because of the bright colors in the paper.

Card sketch #91 - warm wishes

Greetings! Here is sketch #91, measuring the normal A2 size. This sketch came about from a OSW that I made. I was suppose to get 10 cards out the 8.5 x 11 sheet that I did, but only got 8 as I played around with it a lot.
The back ground horizontal panel is from the OSW and I added a couple of circles to the mix. Both circles were cut using nestabilities. I added some dots in the center of the flowers and around the scalloped circle using a sharpie white paint pen. This is the best white pen that I have found! I did some paper piercing on the top and bottom of the panel using my clear ruler at 1/8 intervals - much better than using my SU paper piercing template - it just isn't straight in a few places! It has made me throw out quite a few cards over the years! LOL!

Card Sketch #90 - Halloween

Good day everyone! Here's sketch #90, measuring the normal A2 size.

This is a retired TAC image that I just think is adorable. He is colored with prisma color pencils and blended with OMS. I also used a few Copic's on the smaller details like the moon and the stars. I picked up the pebble/bubble black paper at my LSS last year thinking it would make a cool back ground for a halloween card.

The Sentiment is from Alota Rubber Stamps. I added an outline with Copic Cool Gray marker and then added the dots around it so that it went with the main image. I used the ticket punch to punch the corners and added some mini black brads. I found some purple grosgrain ribbon in my stash that matched the Core'dinations card stock that I layered everything with.

I used the same image and a horizontal sentiment to complete the sketch over at SCS. I just loved how the colors went together, so I stuck with it! The polka dots are a stamp from Clear Dollar stamps. I stamped it in Palette Noir then went over them with a black glaze gel pen. This made them stand out and match that wonderful pepple/bubble black CS in the back ground.

Celebrate Anything!

Hello - happy Wednesday (or Thursday when most of you get this). Thought I'd share a card I did a while ago - and remind everyone that there's still a couple days left to participate in my blog candy sketch challenge! See card sketch #88!

The card starts off with a piece of card stock measuring 12 x 4 and ends up when folded a 4 x 4 pocket card. I'm sure all of you have seen this before, but if not, leave me a comment and I'll get you the instructions.

The designer paper is from DCWV "Once upon a time" pack. The pink card stock is Core'dinations. The black circle is one of those things that came about by mistake. I cut a circle with my nestabilites and it was too big for the project I was working on. So I chose another die and cut it again - wow - that skinny circle looks cool - wonder what I can use it on? You know how it goes...The sentiments and the swirl are from The Angel Company. I used cloudy coral chalk ink from Memories to stamp everything. The ribbon is a close match to the ink and paper, but not perfect! The back side of this card is also covered with the same designer paper, which hides how I attached the ribbon.

I have a funny little story to share - I celebrated my 22 wedding anniversary this past Saturday. My DH gave me one of those funny kind of cards that you can only appreciate when your married as long as we've been! =) I also got him one of those types of cards. You know what he said to me? Get this, and I quote "Why did you buy it?" At first I thought - wow, you don't appreciate my humor and you don't like the card I chose, getting really mad at this point. Then he quickly clarifies....."I look forward to seeing what your going to come up with when you make it yourself." Isn't that sweet? I just had to giggle and give him a big hug!

Card sketch #89

Hello there! Here is sketch #89 and I have two examples to show you. Sketch and cards measure the normal A2 size.This first one is done with some new dp I just picked up at Joann's. I really liked that it was so soft and feminine looking. I used my coluzzle to cut the half circle and distressed the edges with burnt umber ink. The corner thingies were added at the last minute because I felt it needed a little something -it appeared a bit blah! Flower stamp is from the set called Spring Flowers from The Angel Company and the sentiment is from the Sparkle set. The flowers are colored with Copic Ciao Markers.
This next one is done using the flourish set from The Angel Company. I stamped it with versamark and used clear embossing powder. The designer paper is also from TAC called Amberley Grace. The sentiment is from Life Thoughts and is stamped in Aqua ink to match the paper. I used the same ink to outline the long panel and added the same color brads as accents.
I sent both of these cards out to Angels who belong to the Angel Tag it group on Yahoo! I tend to send out my sketch design creations to some of the RAK groups I belong to.

Fall colors

Hi all! I just completed this card for the sketch challenge over at SCS (#192) and really liked how it turned out and thought I'd share!

I stamped the leaves in Palette Noir and colored them using my prisma color pencils and blended with OMS. I also added a bit of sky blue chalk ink to the back ground so it wouldn't be so stark white. The distressing is done with a pair of scissors. I used the same stamps for the back ground panels with versamark ink and some clear embossing powder. I really love how they turned out!
I got out my sew mini and added some zigzag stitches to distinguish between the two panels. While trying to figure out what I could add to the side to finish this card off, I ran across these flat disc's that I've had forever - I can't even remember where I got them or who makes them. I just added a few drops of glue to the back and stuck them on. Their antique color goes so well with this color combo!
